Vehicle Comments
The International Harvester Company is no stranger to building trucks that last and can take the abuse of hard work while stressing the importance of reliability and performance. The idea of giving the American worker a vehicle that rivaled their farm equipment was a stellar decision from the executives at IHC. International Harvester developed the Scout in the early 1970’s and it became the precursor of the modern SUVs we know today. The only other 4-wheel drive recreational vehicles offered at the time were Jeeps and Broncos. The Scouts became known for their ability to perform anywhere while maintain high levels of durability and reliability. They are a key part of automotive history as being considered one of the first SUV’s.
This 1976 International Scout has been the recipient of a thorough cosmetic and mechanical recondition including but not limited to a glass out repaint. Completed in late 2010, the quality of the work is self evident and the car remains in wonderful condition. Recent mechanical work includes a full tune up, new brakes throughout, including rear brake drums, wheel cylinders and shoes, front brake rotors, calipers, pads and hoses. The transmission was pulled from the truck and received a complete overhaul. The rear main seal, oil pan gasket and transmission pan gasket was also recently replaced and the truck is free from major leaks. Finished in a metallic gray paint, it wears its new vinyl black top and black steel wheels well. Complete with front brush guard, black fender flares, custom rear tire and gas can carrier this truck makes a strong off road statement. The paint remains in excellent condition and there are no major blemishes. The repaint was done properly all door jams, inner panels, gutters and nooks and cranny having received professional attention. The blue cloth interior features two front captains chairs, a rear bench seat and rollbar. The instrumentation, carpets and gauges appear to be original, and show only minor wear and presents well/. The 304 cubic inch V8 pulls hard and produces an aggressive exhaust note throughout the entire RPM band. The automatic transmission shifts without hesitation or any slipping. All other mechanical components are in working order, as they should be, and this truck is ready to be enjoyed by its next enthusiastic owner.
