1968 Volkswagen Westfalia Camper Van “Well sorted, very correct and original, excellent condition.

Nothing screams the 1960’s better than the iconic Volkswagen Microbus. Offered in many guises, the van became the symbol of the 60’s counter culture “hippy” generation. Affordable, reliable, adorable and practical were all halmarks of these wonderful vehicles. Among the most desirable was the Westfalia Camper. Featuring a bed, kitchen sink and pop up roof, these vehicles were universally loved and cherished.
The van on offer here is a beautiful red 1968 VW Westfalia Camper Bus. Produced on July 4th, 1968, with the desirable factory optioned “Westfalia Campmobile Interior”. Despite this truck being half a century old, it remains in excellent condition, well cared for and ready to go. The van has been well maintained through the years and remains in wonderful “driver condition”. It has been sympathetically restored over the years, including a glass out respray. The interior is largely original, It’s pop-up camper functions well, adding to practicality as well as spacious headroom. With dual batteries and a 110 plug in outlet, it’s still usable for camping. The engine is an 1971-72 “AE” 1600cc dual port engine. It runs well, starts easily and has good power and torque. As the sun begins to set, the seats fold into a bed. All of the interior furniture seems to be original, including the table, ice chest, cabinets, screened windows, and a small cot the user can use all of these amenities to lounge peacefully in all his 1960’s glory with all of the creature comforts one needs. According to its original factory M-Code plate, it also was optioned with “vent wings” (also known as pop-out windows), three-point seatbelts in front, lap belts in back, padded instrument panel and was delivered new to the Houston/San Antonio Area. this 1968 bus is an early second-generation larger than the previous generation, with a more powerful 1600cc engine. Producing a neck-snapping 47 horsepower the performance is leisurely. The van has been the recent recipient of full tune-up, fluid change and brake overhaul (including wheel cylinders and drums). Being a wonderful driver, this bus is ready to cruise the beaches and a trip to a relaxing campsite this summer! Feel free to call 203 256 9800
