The Classic Car Gallery is proud to present one of the finest restored 1946 GMC CC-101 ½-TON 115” “Step-Side” Pickups in existence. What began with a very original but tired truck, turned into a full, bare metal, rotisserie restoration done by Blackhorse Garage, Bridgeport CT. Finished in her original forest green with black grill, fenders, running board and rear bumper this truck's appearance is stunning from every angle. The interior sports fresh dark brown Vinyl and green paint with black accents throughout. The CC-101 Pickup was a continuation of a pre-war design that first appeared for the 1941 model year. The basic cab and sheet metal – including new front fenders into which the headlight pods appeared to be settling – were shared with Chevrolet. The GMC distinguished itself with a two-tiered grille made up of thick horizontal bars, as opposed to the Chevy’s mix of vertical and horizontal bars. For those who still couldn’t tell the difference, long plaques marked “General Motors Truck” were affixed to the hood sides. These were simple, straight forward vehicles. “Butterfly” hoods were hinged at the center and could be opened at either side for engine servicing. Lacking door vent windows, the windshields tilted out at the bottom for ventilation. Fenders and running boards came in black, regardless of cab and bed color. A floor mounted lever activated the parking brake. A beam axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs served as the front suspension. The dashboard and interior were restored to stock with the exception of Auto Meter vintage engine function gauges. Trucks from this period offered few amenities, though this truck does include a heater. The biggest upgrade to this truck is the addition of a BORG WARNER T5 five speed manual transmission. This simple change transforms the driving experience of this truck from one of a tractor to that of a modern pickup truck!!! The correct GMC 302 cid straight 6 has been built for performance AND reliability and the goal has been met in dramatic style THIS IS A REALLY FAST TRUCK!!! The build and restoration of this truck features the following Drivetrain • Stainless kingpin kit • Front disc brake conversion • Dual master cylinder • 1969 Camaro rear end • Tires: Firestone 650 – 16 3.25 whitewall tires • Wheels: 16 x 6 smoothie vintique wheels center moon cap and chrome trim ring • New Clutch • BORG WARNER T5 5-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION w Hurst shifter. • Front and rear leaf springs tested, rebuilt and repaired as necessary Engine • GMC 302 ci. Early 50’s military .010 under straight 6 • New pistons, rings, rebuilt connecting rods. Polished and balanced crank. Motor built by Walter “Smitty” Smith. • Triple stromberg 97’s. Complete rebuild • McGurk log vintage speed intake • Custom stainless/polished 2” rise intake manifold • One of a kind, custom designed all polished stainless 304 SST header and duel exhaust system • 16 gallon, stainless steel fuel tank located in rear of truck • All stainless oil lines and fittings • Aluminum GMC running board step plates • 12 volt conversion and safety cut-off switch Body • Sand blasted to bare metal frame and all body panels • New fabricated bed, including corrugated bed • Chrome front bumper • Original Forrest Green body/bed with black grill, fenders, running boards and rear bumper. acrylic urethane base, clear topcoat • Every nut and bolt replaced with new or re-plated hardware • Fully documented ground up restoration, including photographs • New wiring harness, rubber gaskets and windlace • Owner’s manual 44-46 GMC Interior • Restored heater • Restored dash cluster panel with new chrome • Juliano’s three point seat belts (2) and center lap belt (1) restored seats including springs and vinyl. New As can be seen, no expense was spared in the build and execution of this truck. She has a few modern touches (5-speed fully synched transmission and modern ignition and rear end), to improve drivability and reliability while retaining the classic lines and character of the original truck. The truck DRIVES VERY WELL she goes at highway speeds with ease. The ENGINE IS VERY POWERFUL, and with the modern transmission is a wonderful departure from the tractor-like original the truck drives and shifts like a modern car.
